While single-use virtual cards are designed for simplicity and security, it's important to be aware of their limitations.
Since a single-use virtual card is generated for a one-time payment of a specific amount, for security reasons, it’s subject to the following limitations:
1 - 30-day expiration date.
A single-use virtual card expires 30 days after it is issued and cannot be processed after this date. Both you and your vendor will receive an email reminder 14 days before the card expires if the payment hasn't been processed yet.
2 - Exact Amount Required.
For security, the amount entered into the vendor's payment system must be identical to the card's value. Any discrepancy will result in the card being declined.
For example:
- Payment amount: $500.00
- Action: The vendor attempts to process the card for a partial payment of $100.00.
- Result: The transaction will be declined by the card issuer, and the virtual card will be locked. The vendor will not be able to process the remaining $400.00.
If this happens, contact our support team.
To process the single-use virtual card, the vendor must have a point-of-sale (POS) terminal.
What happens if the vendor doesn't process the card within the 30-day time limit?
If the vendor does not process the card within the specified time limit, the payment will fail.
You'll see a warning notice on the payment's details page and will need to reschedule it.
Resending the payment
When you reschedule, you can choose to resend the payment as a single-use virtual card or switch to an ACH bank transfer. If you don't have your vendor's bank details, you can send them a request to provide their preferred payment method.
