How to make a payment

With pay business bills, you can pay vendors however you want. They’ll get a check or a bank transfer. This article will cover all the ways to make a payment from your pay business bills dashboard.

There are three ways to make a payment:

1. Without a bill
2. Immediately after adding a bill
3. For a saved bill

 

Note: Are you paying a biller?

Our Billers directory is a list of national and local vendors. If you think your vendor might be a verified biller, read this article to learn about pay business bills Billers directory first.

 

Scheduling a payment without a bill

1. Sign in to pay business bills.
2. Go to the Vendors tab. (You’ll arrive here by default after clicking Pay Business Bills in your Capital One business dashboard.)

3. Select a vendor or biller from your list or add a new one

  • Paying a vendor without saved bills? click New Payment.

  • Paying a vendor with saved bills? You can pay any amount you want in addition to the saved bills without paying them. To do that:

a. Click the three dots.

b. Select New payment from the dropdown list.

4. Enter the payment details. Click Advanced bill details if you have the bill details and want to add them. Click Continue to pay.

5. Choose how you want to pay this vendor. Click Continue.

Note: Payment methods.

  • Your Capital One bank account (free)
  • Credit card* (2.9% fee)
  • Debit card (2.9% fee)

6. Choose how your vendor will receive this payment:

  • ACH bank transfer -  Takes 3 business days to arrive when paying with your Capital One bank account. Learn more about our delivery times. You'll need to fill in the vendor’s routing number and bank account details.
  • Paper check - Takes 5-7 business days to arrive. You’ll need to fill in the vendor’s mailing address for a check.
  • Let the vendor choose their preferred delivery method. Your vendor will get an email asking them how they’d like to accept the payment.

7. Select a date you want the payment to arrive to the vendor. Click Continue.
The suggested prefiled date is the nearest possible delivery date. Learn more about our delivery timelines.
Under it, you can see what the debit date will be.

Note: Selecting a different delivery date.

To select a different date than the suggested prefilled one, click it. The calendar will open.

8. (Optional) You can leave a memo for your vendor. Click Continue.

Note: What to put in the memo?

  • The invoice number is great for reconciliation. You can also add a description of the payment.
  • What will the vendor see? The note appears in the email notification your vendor receives as well as printed on the check. When delivered via ACH bank transfer, it will show if your vendor's bank enables memos.

9. Carefully review the details and click Confirm and schedule payment.

10. If this is your first payment, you may need to verify your legal business information.

Note: Verifying your legal business info.

Select the tax ID type and make sure the last 4 digits look correct. 

This is only required for your first payment, to ensure compliance and security.

12. Click Verify and finish

That’s it! Your payment has been scheduled! Pay business bills will send you an email with the payment details.

Note: Did you schedule a payment to a biller? Subscribe to getting eBills.

If this payment was scheduled to a verified biller that offers an eBill service, you’ll be offered the option to subscribe to getting eBills directly to pay business bills.

To view this scheduled payment, go to the Scheduled sub-tab in the Payments tab of your dashboard.

Scheduling a payment immediately after adding a bill

1. Go to the Bills tab. 

2. Click Add bill

3. When you’re done entering the bill details, click Continue.

4. Select how you want to pay. Click Continue.

Scheduling a payment for a saved bill

You can pay saved bills from either the Bills tab or the Vendors tab. Regardless of how you select the bill, the steps for paying are the same.

Selecting a saved bill from the Bills tab:

1. Go to the Bills tab.

2. Find the bill you want to pay and click Pay.

1. Go to the Vendors tab.

2. Select a vendor with bills to pay.

Tip: You can easily see how many bills there are for each vendor under the Unpaid bills column.

 

3. Click on the bills in the Unpaid bills column. 

Note: Want to pay more than one bill?

You can pay multiple vendors at once, and multiple bills to the same vendor at once.

Notice that you’re now in the Bills tab.

4. Click Pay next to the bill you want to pay.

After selecting the bill, continue to schedule the payment:

1. Select how you want to pay. Click Continue
